General Information
Affine areas or affine modules are part of a monobachelor's degree program. As a rule, they should be related to the core subject and complement the subject profile of the degree program. These are interdisciplinary studies that provide students with an extended but self-contained qualification profile.
Generally, students in the Department of History and Cultural Studies must complete a total of 30 credit points. They decide for themselves which modules they wish to take, provided that the subjects offering them agree. You can also apply for an affine module package. You can find more information on this under section 3.
Affine Single Modules
For the registration, the following usually applies:
- Only entire modules published in the latest version of the study and examination regulations can be studied; individual courses cannot be taken.
- Discuss with the course lecturer or person responsible for the module whether participation is possible.
- Have the module registration signed by the lecturer for confirmation and send it by e-mail (FU-Mail) to the Office of Academic Affairs (GeschKult) - within the regular registration period (of CM).
If possible, the modules will be registered in Campus Management so that the evaluation can be carried out there directly.
If this is not possible, you will receive an email informing you that a complete module certificate must be issued and submitted to the Examinations Office of your core subject by the time you graduate at the latest.
In some degree programs, you cannot take individual modules as an affine student, instead you must have successfully applied for an affine module package beforehand (see notes on affine module packages).
The capacities for the subject History has been limited. If you wish to enroll in modules in History, please apply until August 15th by submitting this form to the Office of Academic Affairs.
Following modules can be applied for:
- Einführung in die Alte Geschichte
- Einführung in die Geschichte des Mittelalters
- Einführung in die Geschichte der Frühen Neuzeit
- Einführung in die Neueste Geschichte
- Historische Probleme in epochenübergreifender Perspektive
If more applications are received than there are places available, a lottery procedure will take place. You will be notified of the result by e-mail and, if you receive positive feedback, you can register independently for the desired courses in CM and take part in the regular allocation procedure during the registration period.
Affine Module Packages
Monobachelor students of the Department of History and Cultural Studies have the opportunity to apply for an affine module package by August 15th and starting it in winter semester.
Please send the application by e-mail (FU-Mail) to the Office of Academic Affairs of the Department of History and Cultural Studies.
You can find out which affine module packages are offered in our list.
If more applications are received than there are places available, a lottery procedure will take place. You will be then informed of the result by e-mail - probably at the beginning of September and, if you receive positive feedback, you can register independently for the desired modules/courses within the package in CM and take part in the regular allocation procedure during the registration period.
If you did not receive a place for the winter semester and there are still places available, you can enquire about this between February 15 and March 1 at the Office of Academic Affairs by e-mail and, if applicable, start the affine module package in the summer semester.
Please note that you will only be registered for an affine module package once in your BA degree program due to the limited contingents. This means that you cannot receive another affine module package if you deregister.
Information for students from other departments
Students from other departments should first contact the Academic Office of their core subject to find out whether there are any agreements for taking affine modules / module packages.
In the case of module packages, you can obtain further information from your Academic Office.
If there are no specific regulations/agreements, you can register for individual modules at the Department of History and Cultural Studies using the registration form.
