The Semitic Dialectology Conference Cutting-Edge Research in Semitic Dialectology: Bridging Theory and Practice aims to bring together researchers conducting fieldwork on spoken Semitic languages to advance the field of dialectological studies. This conference provides a platform for fostering dialogue, addressing challenges, and exploring the diverse methodologies required to study this complex and dynamic language family.

Despite the linguistic richness of Semitic languages, resources that focus on fieldwork methodologies are limited. Discussions on these issues are often relegated to brief mentions in grammars, leaving significant gaps in understanding. Recent interest in fieldwork techniques and challenges has highlighted the pressing need for sustained scholarly engagement and collaboration in this area.

By fostering discussions on these and related topics, the conference seeks to establish a robust interdisciplinary framework for advancing Semitic dialectology and connecting theoretical insights with practical challenges.

The conference invites contributions exploring innovative approaches to Semitic dialectology, particularly focusing on fieldwork methodologies, theoretical frameworks, and the integration of traditional and modern techniques.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Synchronic and diachronic analyses of Semitic dialect data.
• Methodologies of dialectological research, including the creation and application of questionnaires.
• Language contact, variation, and their implications for dialectological studies.
• Fieldwork reports, challenges, and innovative solutions.
• Preservation and documentation of endangered Semitic dialects.

Abstract Submission

• Abstracts (docx and pdf) should not exceed 250 words (excluding references).
• Include author name, affiliation, and contact details.
• Submit via email to maciej.klimiuk@fu-berlin.de by 16 February 2025.
• Formatting: Times New Roman, 12 pt, single spacing.
• Each participant may submit one abstract as the primary author.

Notification of Acceptance

• Notification by 14 March 2025. Feedback will be provided upon request for rejected submissions.
