Prof. Khanna Omarkhali receives the 2025 Jemal Nebez Prize for her outstanding contributions to Kurdish studies

The Jemal Nebez Prize Commission awards the 2025 Jemal Nebez Prize to Khanna Omarkhali from the Institute of Iranian Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin for her outstanding academic contributions to Kurdish studies, particularly to Yazidi studies. According to the commission, as a leading scholar in Yazidi studies, Omarkhali has significantly advanced the understanding of Yazidi theology, oral traditions, and the social structures of the Yazidi community. Her systematic documentation of Yazidi sacred texts and her careful analysis of the transition from oral to written tradition have set a new standard in Yazidi studies and make her work an indispensable resource for future research.

The Jemal Nebez Award is presented biennially by a special commission of the Jemal Nebez Foundation in Berlin, Germany. It honors individuals who make significant contributions to Kurdish culture, language, and intellectual discourse.
