Alumni Surveys
The Freie Universität Berlin has been part of a cooperative project for the analysis of the effects of higher education and its conditions in Germany since 2008. The effects are analysed with the help of alumni surveys (KOAB). More than 50 universities take part every year in the project (Studying Conditions and Vocational Success, "Studienbedingungen und Berufserfolg"), which is organized and maintained by the 'International Centre for Higher Education Research' (INCHER) at the Universität Kassel.

Surveys for Exmatriculated Students
The goal of these surveys is to ascertain the subjective reasons for changes of subjects and universities, or for the abandon of one's studies, respectively: This is done in order to find approaches to reduce the rate of exmatriculation.
In the case of the 2014/15 winter term survey, a letter was sent to every (former) student in Bachelor's programs (including those with teaching options) as well as consecutive Master's programs who had either changed their major or exmatriculated themselves in the period between the 2012 summer term and the 2013/14 winter term.
