"Fable between East and West" — An International conference convened by Prof. Caterina Mordeglia in University of Trento, Italy.
"Fable between East and West" is the motto of the international conference convened by Prof. Caterina Mordeglia (Latin Language and Literature, Fac. Arts and Philosophy, University of Trento) in collaboration with Jeremy Lefkowitz (Ass. Prof. Classics, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia, PA). At the conference, held in presence in Trento, Italy, contributions about fables in both the Western and Eastern traditions, interactions and cross-contaminations are being discussed.
Jan J. van Ginkel, partner of the Kalīla wa-Dimna research project (PI Beatrice Gruendler, Freie Universtität Berlin) is presenting on, “How Kalīla and Dimna ended up in the Latin West? On Transmission and Variation.” Van Ginkel focuses on the transmission of KwD from India and the Near East to Europe, with special attention on the different versions in Latin. The variation of the text throughout transmission (especially in the Eastern, but also in the Western versions) and adaptation to cultural environments and audiences play a central role in transmission processes.
The final date of the conference is to be announced. The programme will be made available here.
