Instead of the reconstruction of an original work, Beatrice Gruendler and her team want to provide an observation of the modalities of changes as well as of recurrent patterns and their modular re-combination. The central question is: How to understand and represent such a textual movement? AnonymClassic has developed categories which led to a revision of Martin Sprengling’s classification of the texts into six family groups according to the chapter sequences (Kalīla Studies, 1924). As the text grows at both ends throughout its history, this categorisation has to be understood as a heuristic tool, not as the direct representation of stable chapter sequences obeying to a single associative logic...
