Welcoming post-doctoral fellow Sophie-Jung Kim to the research group
News from Oct 01, 2019
We are delighted to welcome Sophie-Jung Kim to the Reaching the People team as a post-doctoral fellow. Sophie-Jung's research broadly addresses the ways in which religion, culture, and ideas were politicised in the long nineteenth century. While her regional focus is South Asia, her work speaks to transnational and global history, especially in her examination of international events, transnational networks, and her use of different scales of spaces. Prior to joining the research group, Sophie-Jung received her Ph.D in history from the University of Cambridge, where she was a Smuts Cambridge scholar. Her doctoral thesis, ‘Rethinking Vivekananda through Space and Territorialised Spirituality, c. 1880-1920’ has recently been nominated for the Prince Consort & Thirlwall Prize by the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge.
