Open Position: Student Assistant for the Emmy Noether Research Group Reaching the People
News from Nov 27, 2020
The Emmy Noether Research Group Reaching the People is seeking a student assistant to be employed on a 40-hours a month contract that will run until the 30 September 2021. The position will be remunerated in accordance with the standard rate of pay for all student assistants at the Freie Universität.
Taking twentieth-century discourses on humanity and world populations as a starting point, the research group asks who were the audiences and participants in global communication. In our research we probe the issue of inclusion and exclusion in international arenas such as conferences and congresses, political and educational institutions, and media. In so doing we seek to contribute to a better understanding of the origins of our global present, which is marked by the rapid spread of information and new accessible forms of communication as well as by new political, commercial, and technological interventions and constraints. Investigating the period spanning from the 1870s to the 1970s, in our research we cover a wide array of topics and regions, ranging from worldwide education campaigns to religious internationalism and transnational women’s movements, and including the USA, the Middle East, India, Korea, Vietnam, Chile, and the GDR. The research group is part of the broader Global History research area at FU Berlin. More information can be found on the research group's website.
