Reaching the People group outing to the Deutsches Historisches Museum
News from Oct 09, 2020
Earlier this month, the Reaching the People team took a group trip to see the exhibition From Luther to Twitter: Media and the Public Sphere at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin Mitte. The exhibition, which explores the history of the public sphere through the various communication tools which have created and shaped it, was curated by Melanie Lyon, one of our panellists at the discussion "From Podcasts to Twitter: Communicating the Past in the Digital Age" which the group hosted in January this year.
The exhibition was a great opportunity to reflect on the longer history of the public sphere and the group particularly enjoyed the opportunity to watch parts of the famous Nixon-Kennedy debate of 1960 from within a mid-century style living room. It was also lovely for the group to have the chance to meet face-to-face, whilst following the hygiene guidelines of course, after a long period of communication via digital means.
