A respected political scientist acquired a power object in 1973 in Zaïre which was linked to a colonial officer who had been killed during the Pende Rebellion of 1931. When finally published in 2016, the exceptional naturalism of the form provoked significant media interest leading (most recently) to temporary repatriation of the object to DR-Congo. This talk asks how to think about ethics within the ecosystem of restitution. Who exactly are the stakeholders?
