Synopsis of "Back in Berlin" (2021) by Bobby Lax
Shortly after his father dies, Bobby returns to England and finds an old suitcase revealing the truth his father Edgar Lax (1923-2013) hid - about his family who perished in the Holocaust. He invites Manuel, his childhood friend with a German background, to translate the documents. Manuel shares that he too discovered a family secret: his great-uncle is the infamous Nazi director Veit Harlan, who directed "Jud Süß” (1940) - the most notorious anti-Semitic propaganda film in history. Together they embark on a journey to Berlin, that puts their friendship to the test.
“Back in Berlin” is his first full length documentary film and after receiving the Special Jury Mention at its premiere in the Haifa Film Festival in 2021, has been screened at Film Festivals around the world.
