Graduate Schools and Structured Doctoral Programmes

BerGSAS

The BerGSAS bundles the outstanding competences in ancient studies in Berlin. With its five doctoral programmes at the FU Berlin and the HU Berlin, it offers training with methodological awareness and interdisciplinarity. This is made possible by close cooperation with non-university institutions within the Berlin College of Classical Studies.

BGSMCS

PhD students at the BGSMCS study the plurality, changeability and global interconnectedness of Muslim cultures and societies in the past and present. The BGSMCS offers a 4-year structured doctoral programme. Degrees can be obtained in 12 disciplines.

GEAS

The Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS) offers a social science-based, structured 3-year doctoral programme with a regional focus on East Asia (China, Japan and Korea).

GIH

The GK GIH researches intellectual reactions to processes of interconnectedness (16th-20th centuries) in their social, cultural and political contexts. As an FU-HU cooperation, the GK has extensive research experience in regional studies and global history and a strong international network.

HCS

The programme (HCS) offers graduate students with excellent academic performance a cultural studies, research-oriented curriculum with disciplinary and interdisciplinary components for doctoral studies in a subject represented at the Department of History and Cultural Studies.
