Maria Mavroudi, a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin in 2016/17, is Professor of Byzantine History at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on the intellectual contact between Byzantium and the Arabic-speaking world, the history of Byzantine science (including its less respectable varieties such as magic and divination), and the Byzantine translations of Arabic technical texts into Greek.
