Dr. Sookeung Jung is a postdoctoral researcher at the Korea-Europe Center in the Institute of Korean Studies, Freie Universität Berlin. Her primary research interest lies in the dynamic interplay of industry, genres, production, and reception in the realm of East Asian pop culture. From the mid-1990s to the early 2010s, she worked as a television writer and independent producer, specializing in the domains of current affairs and Korean modern history. Based on her professional experience and expertise, she wrote a dissertation focused on structural changes in the Korean broadcasting industry since the late 1990s, earning her Ph.D. from Georgia State University in 2019. Before coming to Berlin, Dr. Jung worked as an assistant professor in the Department of International Studies at Transnational Law and Business University and served as the Policy Director of the Citizen's Coalition for Democratic Media in South Korea, where she strived to advance democracy in the Korean media industry and expand media rights for Korean citizens.
