Database: Networking Kabbalistic Text Production in East-Central Europe (1500-1750)
By using quantitative analysis, our project aims at testing these predominant views on the patterns of transmission of kabbalistic in texts produced in Eastern and Central Europe in early modernity (approximately 1500-1750). The analysis showcases the scope of textual production and, to the extent that this is possible, its precise geographical location, chronological growth, and variation. Secondly, it zooms in on shared patterns in the transmission of texts and potentially meaningful relations between physical items in which they are contained. Thirdly, it recognizes different genres of texts that were transmitted together; by doing so, it reassesses the position of various types of kabbalistic text genres within a spectrum of genetically related textual matters.
