International and studying abroad
Berlin is one of the most vibrant cultural centres in Germany and Europe. Accordingly, Freie Universität offers a unique international environment for a humanities programme such as Islamic Studies. A large number of international students from all over the world characterise everyday life at the university, and international academics, including from the Middle East and North Africa, are always present at the university.
For our students, this international profile offers outstanding opportunities to study abroad: among the 90 partner universities of Freie Universität are several renowned universities in the Middle East. There are opportunities for direct exchange with the American University of Beirut, the American University of Cairo or the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, among others. However, students of Islamic Studies can also apply to other partner universities, for example, in English-speaking countries at New York University or the University of Toronto. Studying at various universities in Turkey is made possible by the Erasmus+ Europe programme.
Within the framework of the direct exchange programme, it is possible to apply for Erasmus+ worldwide funding. More information on the various options and other funding opportunities is available from the Office for International Student Mobility.
