On the Threshhold of Islam: Documents in the Pahlavi Cursive Script
The Institut für Iranistik, Freie Universität Berlin, is organizing the fourth session of the “Summer School on Pahlavi Papyrology” (in the previous years in Vienna, Rome and Paris). This session will be coordinated by Dr. Dieter Weber and Prof. Maria Macuch (both Freie Universität, Berlin).
The Summer School will provide an introduction to Pahlavi papyrology within its larger context in the fields of Iranian and Sasanian Studies, Ancient History and Papyrology in general. The intention is to offer a mixture of taught classes and workshops in which students can learn to appreciate the manifold information which the different kinds of manuscripts provide, as well as to acquaint students with a wide range of questions raised by the papyrological material, particularly the cursive form of the Pahlavi script. The programme will also offer insights into the late antique and early Muslim cultures of Egypt and elsewhere.
Classes will be taught in English. A solid knowledge of the Pahlavi language is required. The number of participants is restricted to 15. The participation fee is 20 €, covering only tutoring. All applications should be sent in before June, 30, and should be accompanied by references of two university teachers. Applications should be addressed to Prof. Maria Macuch (macuch@zedat.fu-berlin.de).Time & Location
