The Sapienza Università di Roma and the Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente are jointly organizing the second edition of the “Summer School on Pahlavi Papyrology”, last year organized by the Austrian National Library in Vienna.
This session is to be coordinated by Dr. Dieter Weber (Freie Universität, Berlin) and Prof. Carlo Cereti (Sapienza/IsIAO).
The Summer School will provide an introduction to Pahlavi papyrology within its larger context in the fields of Iranian and Sasanian Studies, Ancient History and Papyrology in general. The intention is to offer a mixture of taught classes and workshops in which students can learn to appreciate the manifold information which the different kinds of manuscripts provide, as well as to getting acquainted with a wide range of questions raised by the papyrological material, particularly the cursive form of the Pahlavi script. The programme will also offer insights into the late antique and early Muslim cultures of Egypt and elsewhere.
The School is scheduled for September, 6-9, 2010 and will take place at the seat of IsIAO, in Rome.
The number of participants must not exceed 15, and applications should be sent to the following e-mail address: presidente@isiao.it, and addressed to Dr. Simonetta Schiena. All applications should be send in before May, 31st. Applications should be accompanied by references of two university teachers.Classes will be taught in English. A solid knowledge of the Pahlavi language will be required.
The participation fee is € 100, covering only tutoring.
