What demands did the military, medicine, politics, and society make on the psychological resilience of officers in Germany between 1890 and 1939? How did they deal with officers suffering from mental illness? How did the officers themselves perceive their illnesses? And what impact did these have on their self-image and their lives? Gundula Gahlen examines these questions from the German Empire through the Weimar Republic to the Nazi era.
