The Emmy Noether Research Group is currently organizing a workshop on ‘Sounds of Space’ to be hosted in Berlin in November 2012. Approximately 10-15 scholars, artists and researchers from different fields will be invited to attend and discuss the relationship between space exploration and sound culture including ways in which outer space and space travel have been conceived, structured and communicated through sound. Core themes of the workshop include the use of tape machines, computers, synthesizers and other instruments as sonic technologies for producing and conveying knowledge about outer space and simulating the experience of space travel.
