Stefano de Martino ist Professor für Hittitologie an der Universität Turin. Sein Forschungsschwerpunkt ist die politische Geschichte und Kultur des Hethitischen Königreichs.

Er ist wissenschaftlicher Direktor des “Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino per il Medio Oriente e l’Asia".

Weiterhin ist er Direktor des PhD Programms “Technological Skills for the Cultural Heritage” (Universität Turin) - ein European Horizon 2020 Project.

Es ist Mitglied des wissenschaftlichen Beirats der Ligabue Foundation in Venedig. 

Ein zentraler Punkt seiner Arbeit an der KFG wird die Erforschung des hethitischen Regierungssystems vom 16. bis Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. sein, insbesondere mit dem Übergang von der zentralen Kontrolle über die eroberten Länder gegenüber der Schaffung von untergeordneten Königreichen. Er wird sich auch mit der Definition der Grenzen von Vasallenstaaten, den geopolitischen Aspekten und den Auseinandersetzungen um Grenzen befassen.
