Dr. Quan Li, a Humboldt Senior Fellow at the Institute of Chinese Studies, participated as one of the speakers at the International Seminar on Human Flourishing in East Asia, Harvard University, 10-11 July 2023. The theme of Dr. Li's presentation is "The Hope on the Hero: A Critique of Liu Xiaofeng’s Conception of Transcendent Christ." It argues that Liu Xiaofeng’s self-identification as a wounded victim of revolutionary violence leads to his problematic reception of the transcendent Christ and his ambivalent response to the project of New Man and its legacy, and this critical issue is intrinsic to the predicament confronting the enterprise of Chinese public theology.
