Genia Kostka’s new study on facial recognition technology in the TAGESSPIEGEL
News vom 17.02.2020
Prof. Kostka launched her new study on facial recognition technology and public opinion this week. The research, jointly conducted with Léa Steinacker und Prof. Miriam Meckel from the University of St. Gallen, finds that facial recognition technology (FRT) enjoys generally highest acceptance among respondents in China, while acceptance is lowest in Germany, and the United Kingdom and the United States are in between. By looking at both private and public types of FRT, the study shows that commercially-driven FRT applications help increase citizens’ familiarity with FRT and thereby may indirectly increase acceptance levels for state surveillance uses of the technology.
