Textbook of Korean Medicine (Donguibogam)
(Lehrbuch für Koreanische Medizin)
Through consistent and evidence-based research in many clinical areas, Korean Medicine (KM) has considerably improved its international standing in recent years. Much of KM is based on the "Donguibogam", a medical and pharmaceutical textbook compiled about 400 years ago, which also enjoyed the highest recognition in China and the Japan. It was included in UNESCO's "Memory of the World" register in 2009. Even after 400 years, it still serves many doctors in Korea as a manual for prescription writing and as a basis for the registration of traditional herbal medicinal products with the Korean public health authorities. Many prescription medicines found in the "Donguibogam" are available as modern state of the art pharmaceutical extract products in Korean pharmacies. In the “Lehrbuch der Koreanischen Medizin”, the most prominent of these – that have also obtained recognition and coverage by the Korean national health insurance – as well as the medicinal plants / herbal raw drugs from which they are composed are explained in sufficient detail for German doctors and pharmacists to make use of these medicines as single prescriptions (ärztliche Einzelverschreibung) or via compounding (Defekturarzneimittel) in pharmacies for the benefit of their patients.
