The Institute of Korean Studies at Freie Universität Berlin in cooperation with the Korean Cultural Center Berlin welcomes writer Baik Sou Linne, who will hold a lecture on writing for FU students on July 15, 2022

Baik Sou Linne was born in 1982 in Incheon. She holds degrees in French Literature from Yonsei University and Sogang University and a dual PhD from Sogang University and the University of Lyon 2.

Baik Sou Linne’s first publication was that of her short story When the Phantom Disappears in the quarterly Consonants and Vowels in 2010, but she is said to have made her literary debut when her short story Practicing to Lie was awarded the Kyunghyang Shinmun New Writer’s Award in the short story category in 2011. Following that, Baik Sou Linne published a collection of short stories entitled Falling in Paul in 2014 with the Munhakdongne Publishing Group, and in 2015 she published the short story Time Difference with Asia Publishers. In 2016, Changbi Publishers published a collection of Baik Sou Linne’s short stories entitled Miserable Light, and in 2019 Maumsanchaek Publishers published her short story Please Do Not Disappear Tonight. Baik Sou Linne published the novel Dearly Beloved with Hyundae Munhak Publishers in that same year, 2019. In 2020, she published a short story collection entitled A Villa for the Summer, again with the Munhakdongne Publishing Group. Baik Sou Linne has also worked as a translator from French into Korean, her translations of Ágota Kristóf’s L’analphabète and Marguerite Duras’s La pluie d’été having been published in Korea in 2018 and 2020 respectively.

Among the many prizes and awards she has won and received, some of them several times, are the Munhakdongne Young Writers’ Award, the Moonji Literature Award, the Lee Haejo Literature Award, the Hyundae Munhak Literary Award, and the Hankuk Ilbo Literature Award.
