Dongwon Lee is Assistant Professor in the Department of Korean History at Seoul National University (SNU) from 2021. He received his B.A. (2001), M.A. (2004) and Ph.D. (2019) in Korean History from SNU. The title of his dissertation is "A Study of U.S. Military Aid to Korea during the First Republic of Korea".

He was a full-time lecturer at the Republic of Korea Naval Academy (2004.7~2007.6), a visiting fellow at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University (2010.1~8), and a full-time researcher at the Kyujanggak Institute for Korean Studies (2011.5~2019.2). He was also a research professor at the Institute of Medical History and Culture of Seoul National University Hospital (2019.3~2020.2) and a BK assistant professor at the Department of Korean History at SNU (2020.10~2021.2).

His research interests focus on contemporary Korean history. Since his Ph.D thesis on US military aid to South Korea, he has studied East Asian Cold War history and economic history, with a focus on Korea-US relations, and has expanded his research to include the history of science and technology, medical history, and inter-Korean relations. As a visiting professor, his goal is to write a book based on his dissertation that reflects his latest research. He hopes that the nature and academic atmosphere of Berlin will help him achieve this goal.
