On July 13, the international workshop on "Circulation of Knowledge and Social Science in Modern Korea" took place at the Institute of Korean Studies (IKS) jointly organized by the AKS OLUK of of Freie Universität Berlin and Bochum University and the SSK Group of Yonsei University. Professor emeritus Duk Kyu Jin (Ewha University) held the keynote speech on the "Power Structure of the ruling power of Late Choson Dynastie", in which he challenged the mainstream perspective of history scholars regarding the dynamics succession of power positions of that time. The presentations in the following three sessions dealt with how circulation of knowledge manifested in scholarly exchange in form of oral dialogue and in form of encyclopedic compilations, and their development of institutionalization. Furthermore, the talks traced back how new ways of thinking socio-scientifically found their way into modern Korea, or how they were "translated".
