"Revealed Future: Tsunami Reconstruction as a Symbolic Case of the Dysfunctions of the Political/Social System in Japan"

Even five years after the tsunami of 2011, 79,000 tsunami refugees cannot go back home. This is in addition to the 99,000 evacuees from Fukushima. Why? The Japanese government declared that it would allot 250 billion dollars toward reconstruction budget over a five-year period from 2011. Was it not enough? Eiji Oguma analyzes this situation from the perspective of socio-political science.

Eiji Oguma is Professor is a historical sociologist at Keio University and an expert of the history of ideas in postwar Japan, as well as on current transnational social movements and activism.
