My research project aims at reconstructing the Israeli perspective on Central-European and particularly German History during the 1960s-mid1980s, through an examination of the lives and works of German-speaking historians who emigrated to Palestine during the 1930s and were incorporated into the Israeli academy. The project seeks to determine the approach of emigre historians towards the history of their former homelands, through analyzing the interactions between the sphere from which their intellectual premises and historical questions evolved and the field of German experience upon which these questions and premises where projected; namely, the interaction between Israeli history and German history.
The main resources are academic and publicist works published by the Israeli historians, as well as personal files, correspondences with counterparts abroad and oral history.
