Hilla Lavie is writing her dissertation at the Koebner center for German History, the Hebrew University Jerusalem. Her research focuses on the representations of Israel and Israelis in West German films during the 1960s and 1970s, supervised by Prof. Moshe Zimmermann and Dr. Ofer Ashkenazi. She completed her MFA (film directing, 2011) and MA (Film Studies, 2013) at the Department of Film and Television, Tel Aviv University. Her MA Thesis focused on representations of German-Israeli Relations in Israeli cinema, 1950-2010, supervised by Prof. Moshe Zimmermann. This work won the Goldhirsh Prize for outstanding Holocaust research (2014). She is the editor of Slil – online academic magazine for history, cinema and television, published by the Hebrew University. She lectures on the subjects of film and history, history of cinema, Holocaust films, Israeli and German films, in various frameworks. She also produced and directed documentary films in Israel and Germany. Currently she is a guest scholar at the department of History Didactics at the Free University of Berlin with the support of the Armbruster Foundation.
