Since the completion of my post-doctorate, I have taught for short periods as a guest professor as well as done research in several countries abroad (France, Switzerland, England, Israel, USA, Japan, Italy). I am a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut) (Essen) of the Wissenschaftszentrum Nordhein-Westfalen (1992/93 and 1998). In Paderborn I was speaker for the DFG-Graduate Colleges “Travel Literature and Cultural Anthropology” (“Reiseliteratur und Kulturanthropologie”) (1998-2002) as well as head of the NRW research group “Anthropology and Culture” (“Anthropologie und Kultur”) (1993-1996), “Cultural Studies in NRW” (“Kulturwissenschaften in NRW”) (1996-1999), “Culture as Text and Image” (“Kultur als Text und Bild”) (2000-2002). Since October 2003, I have been heading the project “Ritual and Risk. The Performativity of Play Between Cultural Anthropology, Religion and Art” (“Ritual und Risiko. Zur Performativität des Spiels zwischen Kulturanthropologie, Religion und Kunst”) in SFB 447 “Cultures of the Performative” at the FU Berlin.
